Mini-Mapper 7: Choosing a photoencoder
This episode is about choosing a photoencoder for measuring the rotation of our motors. It’s mostly a process of reading datasheets, making a big spreadsheet, then following a process of elimination to end up with a shortlist of possible component choices.
The constraints for that process of elimination are arrived at by thinking mostly about the mechanical constraints on any photointerrupter that we use.

for this video. Here’s the photointerrupter comparison spreadsheet I made.
I ended up choosing the Vishay TCST1230 photointerrupter.
